Wells Fun Run 2012: Drag Racing

If you ever wondered what Wells, Nevada looks like, the photo above is close, although, I used some heavy effects to make it look as lush and inviting as it does in this photo.  Desolation notwithstanding, Wells hosts a car show once a year that should be the envy of all other car shows.  Some car shows focus on being the biggest, others have a rockabilly theme, still others focus on a certain make, continent of manufacture, etc…

The Wells Fun Run focuses on the operative word in its title, and it delivers in spades.

Quick Hitter: Spotted In The Wild Edition

It is very rare to see these creatures in the wild.  Here, a lucky photographer was able to snap a shot of three General Motors products cavorting in a barren, desert habitat.  In the photo, you see a 1968 Camaro, 1978 Corvette, and 1956 Nomad all seemingly coexisting peacefully.  A peacefulness that will quickly evaporate should an attractive Saturn Sky drive by.

Hit the jump for another shot – this time of a 1970 Nova and a 1966 Chevelle.

Quick Hitter: Midget Love Edition

Some may be familiar with Donna’s Ranch. Some may not. If you aren’t, here is some employment advice: Don’t google it at work. Suffice it to say that they offer free tours, free wi-fi, and free showers, and earn their money on other pursuits.

More about Wells Fun Run 2012 to come.

Event Coverage: 2012 Coalville Super Cruise Photo Dump

Coalville Super Cruise 2012

One of the car shows that I had circled on my calendar for 2012 was the Coalville Super Cruise.  It had been many years since I attended.   This year, however, I heard that my friends Scott and Courtney Clark would have their ’63 Nova station wagon featured on the event T-shirt, so I just had to attend.

Hit the jump for some of the highlights of the overcast action.

Fat Christine: 1952 Buick Small Block Chevrolet Swap

This post was originally written for, and appeared here, at Hooniverse.com.

Here at Hooniverse, we advocate “doing stuff” with cars.  Whether it is a day at the track, a gathering at a coffee shop, a roadie, or just working in the shop, get out there and do something fun with your car, or someone else’s.  In this case, I am helping a friend install a small block Chevrolet 350  (what else?) in his 1952 Buick Special.  Click through for a bunch of photos of the fabrication stage.

Quick Hitter: Been There, Done That Edition

While watching the video and seeing the press photos of Gymkhana 5, I noticed that old Kenny Block and I aren’t that different.  One of the photos looked very familiar for some reason.  Then, it dawned on me.  That’s the same street where I stopped for a photo of my wagon while on an epic road trip in 2010.

Here are the two shots side by side:

Obligatory: Ken Block Gymkana 5 – Streets Of San Francisco

Ken Block and his driving skills are amazing. The 650 HP Ford Fiesta he drives is also amazing. What could be cooler than watching Block performing his long list of automotive parlor tricks? Watching him perform them in one of the coolest cities in the world, that’s what. What better place to make this type of video than San Francisco, with its famous vistas and hilly streets?

Hit the jump for 10 minutes of City shredding.
