Fiat Abarth, Yes! 1976? No!

Did you see that Superbowl ad for the Fiat 500 Abarth? Are you one of the cool people who are thinking to themselves right now, “I saw it online waaaay before the Superbowl”? Either way, you are probably stricken by the sheer appeal of the Fiat Abarth. Perhaps you can’t afford a brand new Abarth, but you really, really want one. NTC has your solution:

That’s right, an Fiat Abarth at what should prove to be a far more reasonable price than the new one.  The seller of this particular Fiat claims it  has only 3,884 miles on the clock, so it’s practically new.  The ad can be found here on ebay in St. Petersberg, Florida.

While the mileage claim is, in my opinion, dubious, the claim that it is an original Abarth car is not.  The car has the full Abarth livery, with interesting red paint highlights, scorpion hub caps, Abarth badging, and even a scorpion keychain.

The seller gives limited information, but does state that the car needs a headliner and some upholstery work.  The more I look at it, though, the more I come back to the claim that it has less than 4,000 miles.  The seats are worn out, there is rust under the rear bumper, a dent on the passenger quarter panel, and rust above the driver’s side tail light.  The likelihood of those being actual miles is slim.

But let’s forget the miles for a moment.  How cool is this car?  The timing of its sale with the current buzz about the 2012 Abarth could really boost the final sale price.  You know how some people just have a likeable charisma about them?  That’s how this car is.  It has a magnetic personality.

Interestingly, it seems to have been photographed in some sort of movie set.  Either that or the owner built the background just for the purpose of shooting this car for this ad.

In the end, the mileage claim would make me pretty cautious about dealing with this seller, but, if I lived anywhere near this car, I would probably cruise by the movie set and look it over.

Final note:  The seller also has a 3,219 mile Yugo Cabrio and a 20,377 mile 1967 Fiat Spider Abarth for sale.  Having those three cars with those mileages is nothing short of miraculous.  (Or dubious.)
